King Named National Player of the Week

January 23, 2018

Kansas City, Mo. - Montana Western junior guard Brianna King was named NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) National Player of the Week.

King, a 5-5 guard from Spokane, Wash. and a transfer from Spokane Falls Community College, is majoring in heath and human performance. She was named Frontier Conference Player of the Week for her role in leading the Bulldogs to wins over national ranked opponents last weekend. King averaged 22.5 points in the wins over No. 10 Carroll and No. 18 Rocky Mountain College. She was chosen out of a pool of conference group winners.

Against Carroll, King scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Verses MSU-Northern, King scored 23 points, pulled down four rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals.

This season she has been been named Frontier Conference player of the week three times, and has set two school records: Most points in a game with 37 against Eastern Oregon in Nov., and most free-throws made in a game with 15 against Northern this weekend.

"We were excited to see our team and Bri bounce back last week to earn a couple hard fought wins over two quality opponents," stated head coach Linsday Woolley, "Any time a player from our league receives national recognition for their efforts I think it helps to speak to the quality of teams in the Frontier Conference."

King is the first Bulldog to receive the award since Bobbi Suhr won it in 2003, and the first player from the Frontier Conference to be named National Player of Week since 2014.
